“GUSEV VANTAGE”

  • THE BRIEF

As part of a University live brief, set by Studio Kiln, we had to “find something lifeless and make it lifeful...”

  • THE CHALLENGES

My biggest challenge within this project was using the Mars environment to influence the designs in a subtle, unique way. For example the name “Gusev” comes from the name of the crater that humans will use as a landing site if we ever venture to the Red Planet.

  • THE OUTCOME

The final branding for this hotel was moulded by elements such as the planet’s basalt geology & extreme weather.

  • THE LESSON

This project allowed me to work on my presentation & pitching skills. Presenting in front of a real studio was both nerve-wracking & exciting, but most importantly it allowed me an insights into the day-to-day workings of the design industry.

  • THE FUN

I took this opportunity to teach myself Blender. After playing around with texture & modelling, I created the glass crater seen across the brand assets.

  • THE INDUSTRY

This brief taught me the importance of research-based design choices. Looking into how designers approach the hospitality & lodging branding allowed me to understand how details surrounding environment, culture & location can be extracted and used.

  • THE SKILLSET

I believe this project allowed me to not only further my overall branding skills but it also gave me the opportunity to learn new skills such as 3D modelling.
